Examples of possible links to GCSE and AS/A2 level courses
The chief aim in developing the Sensors materials was to provide a range of activities suitable for students in the 14-19 age range which would show the relevance of sensors to everyday life and provide some information on how different kinds of sensors work, including the importance of potential dividers in many sensor arrangements. They would also provide practical experience of important concepts such as calibration, interpolation, and reliability.
The sensors notes and activities provide support and extension for teaching DC Circuits and use of potential dividers in the AS/A2 level subject specification and for the following aspects of the KS4 Science Programme of Study: How Science Works: Data, evidence, ideas and explanations 1a and 1b; Practical and enquiry skills 2a,b,c,d; Communication skills 3a,b,c; Applications and implications of science 4a and 4b.
Below are some examples of where the activities might be used to support and extend teaching aspects of AS/A2 Physics, GCSE Physics and GCSE Science /Additional Science syllabuses.
